- Piscine Molitor Patel: Pi is the main character of the novel. He is a teenage Indian by, who practices three religions: Christianity, Islam and Hindusim. His faith and knowledge of animal psychology help him survive 227 days at the sea in a lifeboat with Richard Parker. Pi is a black and really intelligent boy.
- The author: He is really curious and he interacts with the adult Pi which gives authenticity to the story. He seems really handsome and with a really good personality.
- Orange Juice Is a female orangutan that reminds Pi of his family. The mother of Pi plays her role during the second story that he creates for the officials.- The zebra: It’s a powerless character in the story because of his broken leg and he represents the roll of the sailor in the second story also.
- Richard Parker: He is the Bengal tiger that becomes Pi's reason for living and his only companion during the 227 days. He is really strongand inteligent.
